AKT Designs LLC is a full-service, innovative architecture and design firm based in the New York Metropolitan area. Founded by Kirk P. Mitchell, AIA, the firm provides comprehensive design services that include architecture, interior design, programming, and planning.


We believe that every project has a unique opportunity for expression. Our mission is to discover that opportunity—regardless of site, program, or budget constraints—and translate it into thoughtful, functional, and beautiful design.

LEADERSHIP

Kirk P. Mitchell, AIA  is a licensed architect, design leader, and entrepreneur based in Bergen County, New Jersey, with extensive experience across architecture, construction, real estate investment, and development. Known for his disciplined work ethic and strategic design thinking, Kirk brings a holistic understanding of the built environment—bridging vision, technical execution, and long-term value. 


Kirk earned his Bachelor of Architecture with High Honors from Howard University and a Master of Science in Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University, with a focus on computational design and building diagnostics. During his academic training, he gained early professional experience at The Hillier Group. 


Professionally, Kirk has led projects across a wide range of scales and typologies. His roles include Project Architect at Marchetto, Higgins, Stieve—working on mixed-use and high-end multifamily residential developments— Northeast Design Architect for Hyundai Motor America—where he led the design of over 200 dealership facilities—and Director of Architecture & Design at Dixon Advisory USA, overseeing the design of more than 300 residential townhomes throughout the New York metropolitan area. 


Drawing on this experience, Kirk founded AKT Designs, a full-service architectural practice grounded in the belief that thoughtful, well-executed architecture is key to unlocking a project’s full potential. Beyond design leadership, he is actively involved in the firm’s growth strategy—pursuing new opportunities, strengthening community and municipal partnerships, and positioning AKT Designs for larger multifamily and mixed-use developments. His commitment to design excellence, technical precision, and client service continues to drive the firm’s reputation as a trusted partner in shaping dynamic, sustainable built environments.
